How to Bind Off Knitting

Binding Off
The bind-off is how you secure all the stitches when you reach the end of your piece. To bind off, start by knitting two stitches. Next, slip the first stitch over the second stitch and off the needles. Knit one more stitch to get back to two on the right hand needle. Now you are ready to bind off again.
Always be sure to bind off LOOSELY, so the bound off edge stretches as much as your cast-on edge.  A trick to ensure a loose bind off is to use larger needles on your bind off row.
You can bind off just by knitting or bind off in a pattern, such as ribbing. The difference is what the edge looks like when you are finished.

Save your knitting by using a lifeline. It gives you a safety net to fall back on in case you make a mistake. The lifeline can help prevent needing to start a piece over from the beginning.
