How to Knit English style

Knitting
Learning to knit is fun and easy. You don't have to be patient, as long as you have the desire to keep trying! There are many benefits to knitting, both for your health and well-being as well as helping to make the world a better place. Knitting brings much gratification and joy.

The Knit Stitch
Perform a knit stitch by inserting your right hand needle through the loop on the left hand needle, wrapping the yarn around the right hand needle, and drawing that yarn through the loop. Then dropping the original loop off the left hand needle, leaving the new loop on the right hand needle.

English Style
English style knitting, a.k.a. "throwing" means that you wrap the working yarn with your right hand. The term "throwing" comes from the action of taking your right hand off of the needle to wrap the yarn. If you naturally hold the working yarn in your right hand, you are working English style.

Right handed vs Left handed
Knitting uses both hands! It doesn't matter which is your dominant hand in knitting since both hands are involved. If you wrap the yarn with your right hand, you are doing it "English" style (also referred to as "American" or "throwing"). If you wrap the yarn with your left hand, this is considered "Continental" style. There can be differences in tension between these two methods, but most folks first learn to knit English style. If you decide to try continental, make sure you are still wrapping the yarn in the same direction around the needle, or else you'll end up with twisted stitches!
