How to Make One (M1) English Style

Picking Up The Bar
Make One From None
To make one (M1), pick up the bar between two stitches and knit into it. depending on which way you pick it up, you either knit into the front or the back of the stitch. It is important to make the new stitch twisted if you do not want a hole in your work.

A Different Slant (M1L, M1R)
There are other versions of a make one, such as make one left (M1L) and make one right (M1R). Instead of picking up the bar between stitches, you pick up the right or left stitch from a previous row and knit into it. Each of the different versions of make one's produce different looking increased stitches.
