How to Backwards Loop Cast On

Backwards Loop Cast On
The backwards loop cast on is the quickest and easiest cast on method. It also produces the least stable cast on spine and therefore may not be ideal for all works. It is ideal, however, for casting on stitches in the middle of a work (as is often done for buttonholes, neck openings on sweaters, etc). Another benefit to the backwards loop cast on is you do not need to measure your yarn in order to perform this cast on method.

To create a backwards loop: Form a loop with the yarn and then insert the needles into the loop backwards. You'll know you have it right if the yarn stays on the needle.
